Costs & funding
Approved hours can cost your family $0 out of pocket.
Alberta’s Client Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) program lets families choose their own home-care provider, with approved hours paid by Alberta Health Services and billed directly through Alberta Blue Cross.
KapwaCare bills Alberta Blue Cross directly for your AHS-approved hours: no invoices to front, no reimbursement forms, no waiting for cheques. When those hours are billed at the AHS-approved rate, that's $0 out-of-pocket for approved hours.
Worth knowing: AHS funds a set number of hours per month at a set hourly rate. Anything above that rate, or beyond your approved hours — plus items like overtime and statutory-holiday premiums — is private-pay. Your provider must be on the Alberta Blue Cross registered vendor list (KapwaCare is registered), and you'll sign a short Blue Cross consent and agreement and keep AHS updated on changes like a hospital stay or a move. We handle the billing and walk you through every form.
How to find out what you qualify for
- 1. Call us, and we’ll explain the process in plain language (English and Tagalog).
- 2. If you don’t yet have an AHS case manager, we’ll point you to exactly who to call and what to ask.
- 3. Once hours are approved, we handle the Blue Cross paperwork end to end.
Paying privately
For hours beyond an approval, or if you’d rather not wait for one, we offer straightforward private-pay hourly rates, from a few hours a week to 24/7 care. Ask us for the current rate sheet; there are no sign-up fees and no long-term contracts.
